Happy Easter, whichever way you prefer it...

Finally, finally I got to watch Paris, Je'taime today after weeks of being unable to and the wait is definitely worth it. It's a wonderful movie about the life and relationships of the various people in Paris. There's people looking for love, people rekindling their love, parental love, dangerous love of drugs, accepting yourself as you are and even fantastical vampire (with meant-to-look-fake-for-artistic-purposes blood) blood.... It is brilliant, 18 different stories that isn't tedious to go through. Definitely a film worth watching again and again. I can't absorb the whole thing at once..

R_R

Some food for thought..a rather old but interesting article that compares Mac and DOS(PC) through a Catholic(Mac) v.s Protestant(PC) view..

(oh,oh,did I mention that Paris, Je'taime has a realistic and racially diverse cast which makes me love it even more!?)

It's nice to be geeky...

So I just finished watching the Discovery Channel's Extreme Engineering, which in today's episode, was all about Malaysia's Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (SMART Tunnel).. it's fascinating to see the entire process and to understand the mechanics and dangers of the ingenious yet simple (as most ingenious things are) idea of combining both a storm water management system and a traffic tunnel... and the TBM used is also the one Mike and Bryan used for The Drill, which doubled my excitement..complete with (Bentonite)slurry! To see them combine real life science into an Animated T.V show with such care and accuracy just reconfirms why Avatar is the Best Show Ever. So why is NICK still being such a dick about putting out new episodes???

R_R

The Official Heroes Soundtrack with Death Cab for Cutie, David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Nada Surf, The New Pornographers and awesome instrumentals?? Sounds awesome and I hope it is!

(Watched The Spiderwick Chronicles last week and it was actually GOOD. Didn't take itself seriously and tried to strut about like Fantasy's next big thing. Very Good Humour and the ending was hilarious and touching..not at the same time of course.)

*Edit*
I don't know why I found this amusing...

Like OATMEAL (that is, my brains, and just as tasteless..)

You know one of those quiet, inconspicuous teachers who are often too good to their students and try their best to teach a good lesson even though they are subsequently indirectly bullied by the students who take advantage of said teacher's meekness by making a lot of noise? Maybe you do and maybe you don't.
But one such teacher in my school who taught me when I was in the lower forms was taken away yesterday on an ambulance after having an epileptic seizure. Details were not known till this morning when my English teacher told our class that it was epilepsy..before which everyone thought he suffered from heart attack..the ambulance took 40MINUTES to arrive, where some students reported blood on his lips...I hope he is alright.

Really, I am actually quite mild mannered..I think. I just rant and bitch a lot because expressing it out with loads of bad words HELPS. And partly why this blog was created..

Mum has started packing up our things to be sent off to the Philippines..the big move in what? 9? 10? months? Burble.

You, perched on the end of your comfortable bed..

When I can't think up a good subject line, I just type in the first lyrics I hear...(Western Meadowlark, by Brown Recluse Sings. The Western Meadowlark is the state bird for SIX states in America. Are bird types scarce or is the Western Meadowlark just too awesome for the people to resist?)

I'm the sort of person who likes the occasional company I manage to have but have no qualms about being alone either.

But, I'm also the type who tends to overdo it and ramble too much and takes things far too personally. And lock it up. And only let out a liver of doubt and the questions of the nature of relationships that I have with fellow classmates.

I prefer not to show emotion, which my grandmother disapproves of.

I am more emotional than I would like to think.

I dislike poetry. But I enjoy music.

Ideas flutter in my head, but my head is also like a very loose piece of netting, retaining little and losing all the things I see throughout the day.

I type posts like these when I have too much to think about but nothing to write out. Also, it makes me feel unnecessarily melodramatic.

I found my father's Polaroid Camera. He only used it once, when he was visiting India. The photo taken with it of him in front of the Taj Mahal was surprisingly good ("good" isn't the adjective I am looking for, but I can't think of anything else at the moment..maybe "romantic" but it feels weird.) and is one of the few that I keep with me, as it captured his personality quite well. The camera is practically brand new and I intend to stock up before Polaroid completely ceases film production.

Last week: Been reading other people's interests. Then I reedited my own since it is rather outdated. I kinda overdid it. Interest is almost = likes but not quite. So a lot of my likes are now translated to interests which is a little weird since " I like lemons " sounds alright but " i am interested in lemons " makes me sound like a farmer who wants to open a business of citrus fruits. Also, "most liquids" sounds dirtier than it really is. Which is that I like consuming most types of beverages. ( Addressed because of this.)

Erm..I'm afraid to go out?

Quizzes to take my mind off my horrible haircut. I mean, Most Asians have thicker hair than any other race so why the hell are the hairdressers in my area all so bad at cutting thick hair(i.e: mine..and weird thing..my classmates' hair are all a lot less thick compared mine...)!? I wear my hair short and they always overdo the thinning and cause your hair to just poof up two weeks later.. I know lots of Chinese enjoy the overly thin / spiky, weird, I don't really have enough hair look at the bottom but REALLY. The only person I found who can actually make my hair look nice without it poofing up is in the Philippines. ERGH. Vanity rant OVER.

Wake Up and Take Control of Your Own Cipher...

2008 is really the year of POLITIK. Russia, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Taiwan, Spain, America.. just to name a few of the countries who have had, are having and will have elections this year. Malaysia too, just finished the electing their new parliament members yesterday...

This post took 3 hours plus, spanning across two days..due to incoherency, the decision to wait for the election results as well as the short bursts of thunder the sky enjoys sending. Why the effort? Because I want to tell the world that Malaysia is changing for the better and hopefully will stay that way.

R_R

Any incoherency, bad English, misspellings and the tendency to repeat and to bore is much regretted.
Also, the Wikipedia articles might not be fully updated yet..

(Summary of this entire post: No racial equality in Malaysia. Ruling Party never toppled. Dissatisfaction shown by Indian Minority spurs people to vote for their rights. Voting results indicate Opposition is starting to gain a lot more support than the past. Yeah.)(oh yeah, the area where them pictures were taken are all won by the Opposition. JFYI.)

My classmate and her parents are now afraid to go out because they think May13 might happen again. My mother just scoffs and says they are being overtly paranoid.

(Oh yeah, for those who are interested..here's the free online copy of the ENTIRE American God's novel..by Neil Gaiman of course...though I don't think it's the book you should read first if you are new to Mr.Gaiman's work..even though it WAS the first for me.. because to directly quote Neil :

"It was really interesting. I don't think I would have put up American Gods as a first choice for free book myself -- mostly because a) it's really long and b) it divides people. As far as I can tell, for every five people who read it, one loves it utterly, two or three like it to varying degrees, and one hates it, cannot see the point to it and needs convincing that it's a novel at all. (Quite often the last person really likes some of the other books I've written, if they ever pick up anything else by me ever again.) But that's the fun of democracy, and American Gods has won more awards than any other single thing I've written.) "

(I voted for Coraline..ah well..)

Jan 1, Awal Muharram, Ponggal and Chinese New Year have all passed. Tests are in a week. Bother.

ALSO: My part of the world nearly always misses the best astronomical phenomena..like this week's lunar eclipse..the last time a lunar eclipse happened in Malaysia was in 1998..when I was still too ignorant for it, therefore slept through it all. Whut. (more Eclipse goodness here.)

Little Bits of Life..

So my school's celebrated it's 100th year today with a luncheon for grownups, boring speeches by the governors while we stand under the morning sun, BALLOONS and a calligraphy contest since it's still the New Year... pictures taken with my friend's camera since I couldn't bring mine...not having classes always makes me chipper..heheh..more on that when I upload the pictures a hundred and one years later.... (three stolen balloons are currently floating beside the computer..)

Also, outside my house is a nice stretch of grass. Where plenty of idiots enjoy bringing their dogs to poop on. WHUT. If only I can set Rocky on them and their annoying, yappy, fluffy dogs..but Rottweilers have a bad enough reputation (even though Rocky is completely opposite of rabid and vicious and is in fact very sweet and totally gay. Literally. As in he humps male dogs. No joke.) (His favourite past times include sleeping, stealing tidbits from the kitchen and bullying passersby by barking extra loudly while wagging his tail at those who are already scared enough of him without extra provocation)

I watched Kung Fu Dunk last Sunday with my friend who is a big fan of Jay Chou. Music and moves are alright, though all in all the movie is flat and seems very..incomplete? in terms of character development and plot..and seems more like a personal making-Jay-Chou-look-cooler-than-he-really-is  movie than anything. Ah well. At least I got to spend time with my friend whom I rarely see anyway..(right usage of Whom??)(my English is full of suckage.) And I liked the fact that the movie is made up of a mandarin and cantonese speaking cast. And that they even placed English subtitles for the songs...

(i wanna watch CJ7)

In which my preference to Fantasy is questioned and ridiculed..

Dinner with relatives I am not very comfortable with is..well, uncomfortable so I brought along Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. Whipped it out during a particularly tiresome part of the general conversation and my Uncle is curious. He surveyed the cover , shook his head, read the back, asked me if I really paid the listed price(6 pounds and 99 pence)(the answer is no by the way..but it was still bloody expensive for a relatively thin novel) shook his head again, flipped the pages, sighed and handed it back to me. Ar.

Previous cases include a different uncle who scoffed at the price of my copy of The Mammoth Book of New Comic Fantasy (which begs the questions: 1. Do people really think that fantasy is such a lowly and (should be a)cheap genre? (yes)and 2. Why are fantasy books so expensive in my part of the world??? (??)) and said,"It's not even a real book!" in which I replied :"....." Because That Uncle is the King of Sarcasm and Biting, Witty comebacks so..

Happy Year of the Rat, Guys....

Chinese New Year spent taking advantage of the emptier roads by practicing my lousy ass driving. And taking pictures of CNY decorations in various malls and will be posting them when I stop hitting myself over the head for being a near sighted, muddled IDIOT. Argh.

Ever have those times when you make stupid mistakes that are not only totally avoidable if you were paying proper attention and not being a moron!? (Hence, the icon. GAH.) These sort of mistakes are the kinds that eat me all up inside and just scream.

All the best to the people in China who are currently unable to have a wonderful New Year.

When being indignant isn't helping

Dear all,
  1. When a person on your friends list is ranting/bitching etc, is it acceptable if said person doesn't censor/lj-cut etc. their entries? Do you prefer it if that person cuts their entries with a warning? (This I know, seems a very stupid question but I want to know what your tolerance levels are..)(sorry if it seems pointless..)
  2. When pissed, what do you do to cool off?

I think my brain has stopped.

My stupidity of surfing the net while there's a thunderstorm has caused some should have been avoidable problems with my computer and internet connection. It is still recovering.

Which is why I just read about Heath Ledger's death in [info]sporkyadrasteia and [info]flamemetal89 's recent entries.

What the hell. I don't know. The suddenness is mind numbing. And me just watching the new Batman trailer makes it a lot worse.

This morning, the song "Shadow of the Day" by Linkin Park was dedicated to a "Heath" who just passed away, quoting the song "Sometimes goodbye's the only way" as a way of accepting it.

I really don't know why I am reacting so much about it.

Again, it's two sides...

Fantasy movies...always adaptions of novels, rarely original... Harry Potter, LOTR, The Princess Bride, Stardust....I don't actually know any good original fantasy movies..., hell, most movies these days, be they romance, drama, sci-fi etc... the creativity of the movie industry seems to be focused on how to adapt something on to film without making it look too ridiculous. A lot of times they fail. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO MAKING ORIGINAL FILMS FOR THE SAKE OF STORYTELLING?

But even then, as a fan, I can never resist squeeing over a film version of my beloved stories. I am damn excited for Avatar the Movie even though I am very VERY skeptical about the whole thing. I thought Batman Begins was awesome.

Hypocrite.
